Although many applauded Dalia Fernandez's win as the 2011 Miss Dominican Republic, several contestants have come out to denounce her prize. They openly claim that she paid for the crown and title!
There are always elated winners and sore losers at every competition, but rumors turned to the ugly side of the pageant world in the latest twist of the 2011 Miss Dominican Republic event. Several contestants are coming out declaring that fraud was committed from the very start, as reported by People en Español.
'There are rumors that the crown was sold, that it was sold quite some time ago. A lot of the [contestants] did not believe it, but that's what happened,' contender Miss Espalliat Alba Jimenez explained to Spanish TV program Nuria. 'I've lost my trust in pageants.'
Another contestant that went public with the rumors was Miss Dajabon Gabriela Ferreiras. She divulged even more details and showed her distaste of the whole affair. According to reports, the crown was allegedly purchased for $110,000.
'It was all a montage, everyone noticed that it was a montage for her. They always were with her, they always ate with her, it was always the best for her. They say that $110,000 dollars, that's what they say.'
The designer of the organization of the Miss Dominican Republic pageant, Leonel Lirio, denied all the rumors and explained that in every competition some people are always left unhappy.
'It's not possible because everyone of them arrives and receives the same type of training, treatment and the same attention,' Lirio commented. 'She may not have responded the way people expected, but what others gained with their responses, she surpassed with her physical beauty.'
Despite all the rumors and fuss over 2011 Miss Dominican Republic winner Dalia Fernandez, she is still perceived throughout international forums as the best Latin successor for current Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete.
What do you think about all this pageant drama? Are the other contestants merely smearing the winner or is there a possibility that it was all a sham?
