Another of the adult victims in the deadliest slaughter in U.S. school history was Lauren Rousseau. The teacher's funeral service was held at the First Congregational Church in downtown Danbury, a few days after the tragedy. The church was filled with parishioners who sang 'Morning Has Broken' and 'Let There Be Peace On Earth.'

Today is the one-month anniversary since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. The faces of the families and U.S. citizens torn apart by this tragedy are still alive in the minds of many. Here is a collection of the images that were beamed around the country that day.

Without a doubt, one of the faces no one can forget was that of Victoria Soto, the teacher who saved her students when Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook. Soto told her first graders to hide in the closet. When the murderer asked her where the students were, she told them they were in the gym, and that is when he shot her. Now, the city council will decide whether to change the name of the school to hers in her memory. Soto had taught for five years at the school.

But there are many more faces that cannot be forgotten. On that fateful Dec. 14, 2012 day, Lanza killed 20 children and six adults, including Soto.

Among them was 6-year-old Benjamin Wheeler, who underwent a religious service at Trinity Church, before his funeral Dec. 20. During the service of the child fan of the Beatles, 'Here Comes The Sun' and the hymn 'Amazing Grace' were interpreted.

In addition to the faces of the victims, the American public will not forget the images of the families. Like Emilie Parker's father, Robbie Parker, who tearfully expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support the family received from the entire country, and in turn, sent his sympathies to the other vitcims' families, including those of the murderer. 'I can't imagine how hard it must be for you,' he said.

The massacre also shook the Latin community. Ana M. Márquez-Greene, six years old and of Puerto Rican descent, was another of the victims. The child had moved to the United States with her family two months prior to the tragedy. Family members were incredulous at what happened, since they were confident that Newtown was a quiet place.

And indeed it was. Newtown only had one murder in 10 years prior to the slaughter of last month.

Other children who died were identified as: Charlotte Bacon (6 years old); Daniel Barden (7), Olivia Engel (6), Josephine Gay (7), Dylan Hockley (6), Madeleine F. Hsu (6), Catherine V. Hubbard (6), Chase Kowalski (7), Jesse Lewis (6), James Mattioli (6), Grace McDonnell (7), Jack Pinto (6), Noah Pozner (6), Caroline Previdi (6), Jessica Rekos (6), Avielle Richman (6) and Allison N. Wyatt (6).

Among the adults were Rachel Davino (29), Anne Marie Murphy (52), Lauren Russeau (30), the campus educational psycologist, Mary Scherlach (56) and principal Dawn Hochsprung (47).

The faces of the politicians did not remain outside the tragedy. Today, U.S. vice-president Joe Biden will meet behind closed doors with congressional leaders to promote measures for arms control, at a time when there is increased public disenchantment with current regulations.

Finally, no one will forget who was responsible for the tragedy. Lanza killed his mother at their home before he went to Sandy Hook. The young man parked his car in the small parking lot in front of the main entrance. At that moment, there were 600 students in the classes, which had just begun. The young man who was described as a strange person and was treated for mental problems entered the building around 9:14 a.m. and after his admission, he started shooting with the four weapons he was carrying.
