Tropical Storm Isaac dumped torrential rains on Haiti and flattened tent camps housing survivors of a devastating earthquake, then began an assault on eastern Cuba on Saturday.

Authorities in the Dominican Republic evacuated nearly 7,800 people from low-lying areas, and at least 10 rural settlements were cut off by flooding, according to Juan Manuel Mendez, director of rescue teams. Power was knocked out in parts of the capital, Santo Domingo.

There were no reports of injuries, but 49 homes across the country were destroyed.

Marie-Alta Jean-Baptiste, head of Haitis disaster operations, said a 10-year-old girl died in Thomazeau, a community north of Port-au-Prince.

In addition, government officials said a 7-year old boy was electrocuted in the Artibonite Valley in Northwest Haiti, and UN police reported that a woman died in Jacmel when a tree fell on her.

While the brunt of the storm had passed, there were fears that the rains it was pulling behind it might lead to further flooding in Haiti, where almost 400,000 earthquake victims are still living in under tarps. There were also concerns that stagnant flood waters
