The majority of Republicans rooted for the 49ers, 43% to 26%, while 39% of Democrats preferred the Ravens win, in contrast to 33%, according to a survey by the investigation group Clarus, published by CNN.

Led by quarterback Joe Flacco, the RAvens won their second ever Super Bowl 34-31 over the 49ers.

"It seems like this country is divided, not just politically, but also in football", said surveyor Ron Faucheux.

The Independents really were divided: 29% said they supported San Francisco and 28% rooted for Baltimore.
