The Cuban government wants to swap imprisoned U.S.contractor Alan Gross for five Cuban spies jailed inthe United States, former New Mexico Gov. BillRichardson says.
Richardson traveled to Cuba in September hoping tobroker a deal with the Castro government to releaseGross, who has lost several pounds and developed agrowth under his right shoulder blade since Cubanauthorities locked him up two years ago, accordingto his lawyer.
But Richardson returned empty-handed, saying theCastro government wants to strike a deal that wouldexchange Gross for five intelligence agentsconvicted of espionage.
