A Colombian beauty pageant contestant is recovering in hospital after an unknown attacker threw acid in her face causing serious injuries.
María Fernanda Nuñez, who was competing to represent her home town Cucuta in the Miss Colombia beauty competition, was attacked near her house by a man on a motorbike, says Colombia Reports.
The 22 yearold was returning home with her parents at the time and claims she has no idea who could have been responsible for the attack. The attacker escaped on a motorbike after throwing the acid.
While the extent of her injuries are unclear, Nuñez has suffered damage to an eye after her cornea was burned by the acid.
Ms Nuñez has since called for a boycott of the Miss Columbia pageant, asking her local province to refrain from entering a contestant to compete in the nationwide competition.
'It is time to set a precedent and teach a lesson to the violent ones,' she said.
